5W operational support includes the IT infrastructure systems, Business Intelligence -and Data Warehouse applications. As with implementations we work with partners, if necessary, to extend operational support to hosting and networks.
Operational support of systems during their lifetime is another area of specialist skills, extending the skills needed to implement the system. Management and monitoring requires in-depth knowledge of the system, knowing which parts of the system are critical for user access, performance and security. Making the correct response to an incident can enhance the perception of the system and support team. It is an opportunity to show the skills of the operational support team, outside the business-as-usual work that is invisible to the users.
As the system ages the operational support team ensures the system is maintained, upgrading and replacing hardware and software. Carrying these activities out while protecting data and allowing users to continue to use the system with minimal interruption. At the end of the system’s lifetime the knowledge and skills of the operational team are critical assets during the transfer of data and users to the replacement system. The decommissioning process is completed, including secure disposal of business data stored in the system, while the operations team has already moved on to supporting the replacement system.
